Marilyn
Steiger, a Lincoln farmer, recently signed up for the
America's Farmers Grow Communities program and was selected as the winner
for Logan County. The program, offered through the Monsanto Fund, covers 1,204
counties across 38 states and lets each county winner designate $2,500 for their
favorite local nonprofit. Mrs. Steiger will represent Logan County as the winner
of the program and has elected to give her funds to the Abraham Lincoln
Healthcare Foundation.
Mrs. Steiger will present a large ceremonial check to the Abraham Lincoln
Healthcare Foundation on Saturday, March 5, at 7 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital. A representative from Monsanto will also be present.
Logan County Senior of the Month
The Lincoln Community High School Senior of the Month for January is
Ashley Paulus, daughter of Kent and Lynn Paulus of Lincoln.
Ashley’s school activities have included volleyball, basketball, softball,
Spanish Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FFA, D.A.R.E. and National Honor
Society, among others.
She is active in the community as well, including volunteer work with Chester
4-H, Lincoln Extreme Volleyball Club, Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival, Logan
County Fair, Zonta, YMCA, Community Action Partnership, Relay for Life, West
Lincoln-Broadwell School, St. John’s UCC youth group and Illinois Pork
Producers, among other volunteer efforts.
Ashley is planning on sports management as a college major and plans to
attend the University of Illinois.
Logan County Bank congratulates Ashley and is proud to sponsor the LCHS
Senior of the Month/Year award and scholarship program. Each monthly winner
receives a $50 U.S. savings bond from the bank and is eligible for a $1,500
scholarship awarded by the bank, to be used at the college of their choice.
Haley Casper has been named Senior-of-the-Month at Mount Pulaski High
School.
She is the daughter of Kristi Powell of Mount Pulaski and Michael Casper of
Springfield.
Haley is a high honor roll student and an active member of many organizations
at the high school. She is senior class president, FCCLA president, student
council president and Spirit Squad president. She also participates in WYSE
academic challenge, Science Olympiad, Drama Club and is a member of National
Honor Society.
Haley plans to attend Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. She will
major in biology and plans to eventually become a fertility doctor.
The Senior-of-the-Month program is co-sponsored by Mount Pulaski Pharmacy and
Johnson's Food Center of Mount Pulaski. Monthly winners receive $100 savings
bonds and are eligible to compete for the $1,000 Senior-of-the-Year award.
