[January 05, 2011]  CHICAGO (AP) -- No matter which of the four top candidates running for mayor in Chicago is elected, it's all but certain the city will soon have a new police superintendent.

InsuranceOn Tuesday, Rahm Emanuel told reporters it's important if he's elected to have what he called a "fresh start" and select a new police superintendent when Jody Weis' contract expires in March.

Previously, candidates Gery Chico and Carol Moseley Braun said they want to appoint a new superintendent. And Tuesday, Miguel del Valle issued a statement saying he would replace Weis if elected.

Emanuel also says Weis has indicated he intends to step down when his contract is up. But while Weis couldn't be reached Tuesday, as recently as Friday he said he wants to keep his job.
