Hearing set in Chicago for Emanuel residency case

[January 05, 2011]  CHICAGO (AP) -- The effort to try to keep former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel off the Chicago mayoral ballot is persisting.

There's a hearing set for Tuesday morning in Cook County Circuit Court.

It's the latest step in the effort by attorney Burt Odelson to get Emanuel knocked off the Feb. 22 ballot.

The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners has already voted to allow Emanuel on the ballot, saying he meets residency requirements.

Objectors argue that Emanuel doesn't meet the city's one-year residency requirement because he spent nearly two years living in Washington while working for President Barack Obama. Emanuel moved back to Chicago in October.
