[January 05, 2011]  (AP)  Wednesday will see precipitation increase throughout the U.S. as two separate areas of low pressure strengthen and begin moving.

In the Gulf of Mexico, precipitation will begin pushing ashore throughout the Gulf Coast states, then begin moving to the east into Florida and the Southeast.

The Northwest will also see wet weather as low pressure from the Pacific moves ashore. Precipitation will become heavy throughout the coastal areas of Washington and Oregon, with some of the precipitation expected to be quite heavy.

California will avoid any precipitation from this storm as a strong area of high pressure in the Great Basin spreads its influence westward. California will see more clear skies Wednesday though some morning fog will likely develop in the Central Valley and in some of the coastal valleys.

In the East, skies will remain mostly clear, but temperatures will fall dramatically, with daytime highs dropping 10 degrees or more from Tuesday's temperatures. The Plains will also continue to see mostly clear skies, and temperatures there will likely remain about the same as Tuesday or in some locations rise a few degrees.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a morning low of minus 25 degrees at Cook, Minn., to a high of 82 degrees at McAllen, Texas.
