Hale was convicted of trying to hire his security chief, who was working as an FBI informant, to kill Lefkow. Prosecutors said he was angry that the judge had ordered his group to stop using the name World Church of the Creator because the words were trademarked by an Oregon-based religious group. The judge never was attacked. But on Feb. 28, 2005, Lefkow's husband and mother were found shot to death in the basement of the Lefkows' home. An unemployed electrician who killed himself several days later during a traffic stop in a Milwaukee suburb confessed to the crime in a suicide note.
