[January 25, 2011]  NEW YORK (AP) -- A musical based on a story that inspired the Brad Pitt film "Meet Joe Black" is coming to New York.

The Roundabout Theatre Company said Monday it will stage the world premiere of "Death Takes a Holiday" later this year. Doug Hughes will direct.

The musical is based on a Alberto Casella play that was made into a 1934 film. Pitt starred in the poorly received 1998 Hollywood remake.

The story for the new musical was written by Peter Stone, whose credits include "1776," and Thomas Meehan, the book author for "Hairspray" and "The Producers." Music and lyrics will be by Maury Yeston, whose credits include "Nine."

Casting will be announced later.

The play will start June 10 and officially open July 14 at the Roundabout's off-Broadway space, the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre on 46th Street.
