Steve Martin and his cousin Karl Scroggin
conducted Steenbergen Cemetery tours, sharing family stories passed
down through the generations and information discovered on their
research into family and local history. |
|
|
Carter Scroggin arrived in the Illinois
territory in 1811. He was one of the first settlers in what was to
become Logan County. He and his wife, Pheby, have a refurbished
gravestone in Steenbergen Cemetery.
|
Humphrey Scroggin, a Revolutionary War
veteran, has a stone in Steenbergen, even though his original burial
was probably elsewhere. The damaged stone is framed in wrought iron,
and commemorative markers recognize him and his wife, Sarah. |
|
A modern stone for Humphrey Scroggin has been
placed nearby.

Each memorial flagpole is marked with a metal
tag stating a veteran's name, branch of service, and the war or
conflict in which he served.
