Fire department seeks info on early morning explosion

[July 06, 2011]  At 1:19 a.m. Wednesday, the Lincoln Fire Department responded to an explosion at 917 N. Kickapoo St. Upon firefighters' arrival, Lincoln police informed them of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames in a hidden-away area with blocked access.

Firefighters used 600 feet of 2 1/2-inch hose to extinguish the fire. One firefighter was injured.

The estimated value of the vehicle was approximately $15,000, and it is considered to be a total loss. No other items were damaged due to the fire.

Neighbors hearing explosions called 911 and reported the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. If anyone has information related to this fire, they are urged to call the Lincoln Fire Department at 217-735-4020
