Hopkinsville Police Department spokesman Paul Ray tells The Kentucky New Era that the tractor-trailer was behind the two-horse buggy when the truck's driver attempted to shift lanes about 8:30 p.m. Friday. He says the truck struck the buggy, flattening it and knocking off its wheels.
Two victims from the buggy were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A third person was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.
Neither the victims nor the uninjured tractor-trailer driver were identified.
One horse was killed and another broke free and fled.
The New Era says the tractor-trailer driver sat sobbing outside his vehicle following the accident.
