[July 12, 2011]  In the final home games of the year, Burgrabe's Eagles' record fell to 8-2 after they split a doubleheader with Mount Pulaski at Breezy Field. The Eagles lost the opener 15-13 before rebounding to an 11-6 win in the nightcap.

InsuranceThe Eagles got off to a fast start in the opener. After allowing two runs in the first inning, they plated eight runs in the bottom half, although they were short-handed, with only eight players in the lineup. Leadoff hitter Grace Hemenway doubled and was driven home by Danielle Burgrabe. Then Alexis Van Hook tripled and Jazzminn Morecraft singled her home. Sydney Johnson singled, bringing Morecraft, followed by an RBI double from Grace Skelton. Walks to Heather Curry and Katie Hunsley were followed by an RBI single by Hemenway and an RBI walk to Burgrabe, and then Van Hook powered home two more with a single to end the frame on the mercy rule.

Mount Pulaski dug in and scored seven in their half of the second inning and then held the Eagles scoreless, while taking the lead at 9-8.

In the third, Mount Pulaski extended their lead to 14-8, but the Eagles managed to pull within one after a bases-loaded walk to Morecraft, an RBI groundout by Johnson and RBI singles by Skelton and Curry, with a final RBI walk to Hemenway.

The final frame saw Mount Pulaski score another run in the top of the inning. A double play erased the Eagles' hopes and ended the game.

Starting pitcher Skelton (1-1) took the loss, allowing seven hits and striking out two, while Morecraft pitched the final frame, allowing no hits and striking out the side.

The second game started in the same way, with Mount Pulaski scoring two runs in the first frame. The Eagles pulled ahead on a four-run first inning after an RBI single by Johnson, an RBI walk by Hunsley and RBI singles by Burgrabe and Morecraft.

Mount Pulaski scored a lone run in the second inning. Hot hitting by the Eagles built the lead to 11-3 after RBI singles by Hemenway and Burgrabe and two-RBI singles by Skelton and Johnson.

The Eagles held Mount Pulaski to three runs in the third and preserved the victory 11-6.

Morecraft (3-0) was the starter in the second game, striking out six while allowing two hits. Skelton came in for the save, allowing just one hit.
