[July 28, 2011]  LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles police are trying to control an unruly crowd that refused to disperse and began throwing bottles and other objects outside a Hollywood film premiere.

Officer Karen Rayner said additional officers were called to Grauman's Chinese Theatre around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday after several hundred people, angry about a canceled event, "took over the streets."

She said officers who first responded tried to disperse the crowd, but people refused to leave and began throwing objects and vandalizing cars.

Capt. Andy Smith told the Los Angeles Times the disturbance began when fans who tried to attend the premiere of a film about the Electric Daisy Carnival rave were turned away. Smith said the premiere was by invitation only, but many tried to crash the event.
