Jurors on Wednesday convicted 20-year-old Lapoleon Colbert of first-degree murder in the September 2009 death of high school honor student Derrion Albert. Prosecutors said Colbert kicked and stomped Albert. All five people prosecutors say were involved have now been convicted or pleaded guilty.
In a cellphone camera video, Albert is seen being punched, slammed over his head with large boards, kicked and finally stomped on his head.
Colbert didn't testify in his defense. Three of his high school teachers did testify for Colbert. Colbert's attorney argued Colbert wasn't part of the mob.
Jurors deliberated for about two hours. Colbert started crying when the verdict was read.
