The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has informed the
administrating agencies of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance
Program throughout Illinois that funding for the program is not
currently available. However, if the governor's office issues a
state of emergency due to severe heat, DCEO will coordinate with the
local LIHEAP administrating agencies to implement a summer cooling
program. Any groups or individuals wishing to donate funds that
will allow Community Action to purchase fans for clients should
contact Kimberly Lucas, LIHEAP assistant coordinator, at
217-732-2159, ext. 241.
