The committee for the Fourth of July
celebration and fireworks in Lincoln invites you to a three-piece
fried chicken fundraiser dinner, hosted at the American Legion, 1740
Fifth St. The meal will be served Friday, July 1, from 4:30 to 7
p.m. The menu will include potato salad, baked beans, roll and
beverage. The cost is $7.50 per ticket, and advance purchases may be
made at Lincoln Park District headquarters. All proceeds from the
dinner will be used to offset the costs of Lincoln's fireworks.

Anyone wanting to donate toward the expenses of the fireworks can do
so at any time. Your gifts will allow the tradition of hometown
fireworks to remain a reality. Make your donation checks payable to
Lincoln Fireworks Fund in care of Lincoln Park District, 1400 Primm
Road. Any area resident wishing to be a member of the committee
for the Fourth of July celebration is encouraged to join. Simply ask
one of the committee members working the chicken dinner or call the
park district at 732-8770.
Join the fun on the Fourth with the sixth annual "Let Freedom
Ring" old-fashioned children's walking parade. The parade will step
off from Scully Park at 10 a.m. Decorate your tricycles, bicycles,
strollers, scooters and wagons. Walk, rollerblade or grab your
skateboard. Leashed dogs are welcome too. Sorry, no motorized
vehicles permitted (wheelchairs accepted). Parents are encouraged to
accompany their children on the parade route, which begins at the
park at McLean and Decatur streets and ends at the Lincoln Park
District, 1400 Primm Road. There will be contests for best decorated
and categories for ages 12 and under. Guaranteed fun, prizes and
treats.

Then there will be a water fight at the park district grounds,
with Chief Mark Miller and a couple of his firemen from the Lincoln
Fire Department. The park district has even invited Mayor Keith
Snyder to be a part of their team. Who knows, maybe Chief of Police
Ken Greenslate will join the team too. The park district will have
plenty of water balloons and water for everyone.
At 1 p.m., let the pool games begin. There will be all kinds of
contests, along with prizes, treats and lots of holiday fun. You're
invited to one of the best events of the afternoon.
Once again the park district will host Lincoln's fireworks show
at dusk. Come early to find a great spot. There will be a DJ,
concessionaires and a host of other offerings.
