 This is the third year Farm Credit has funded community improvement
grants for 4-H clubs and the first year that FFA chapters are
eligible for the grant program. Clubs and chapters must be based in
one of the 60 central and southern Illinois counties served by Farm
Credit Services of Illinois."It is a privilege for Farm Credit to
share a vision for healthy rural communities with 4-H and FFA
members. We look forward to investing up to $15,000 in total as we
team up with young people who are willing to make positive and
tangible contributions in their local communities," says Rod Stoll,
vice president of public relations for Farm Credit.
During previous years, grants were awarded to support projects
including these examples: implementing a tree planting program along
a bike path, creating a flower or community garden at a school,
landscaping a new fire station, installing a flagpole at a local
park entrance, restoring a children’s park, building a welcome sign
in a small community, constructing and maintaining a community
bulletin board, cleaning up an abandoned cemetery, and developing a
beautification and building repair project at a county fairgrounds.
Community residents should contact a local 4-H member or leader
or FFA member or adviser if they have a suggested improvement
project that the club or chapter may consider pursuing. Other
community organizations are welcome to collaborate with 4-H and FFA
groups in completing the projects.

Applications will be reviewed and grants will be awarded by a
selection team comprised of agriculture industry representatives and
rural community leaders.
