Saturday
morning this group of young men from Lincoln Junior High
School took the plunge for Special Olympics. Team LJHS
Trojans raised $2,099 for the event, making them the first-place winners in the
category for five to 15 members. At the after-party Saturday afternoon, they were appointed as 2012
honorary plungers, which means they will be the first to
take the plunge at next year’s event.
This is just one of 87 local pictures of area events we have in today's

In
this March 12 file
photo, a runway at Sendai airport is
covered with washed-out cars, sand
and earth after the March 11 earthquake slammed into Japan's eastern
coast. Geologists say a powerful
earthquake could strike near Tokyo
because the recent monster that hit
northeastern Japan altered the earth's
surface, loading stress onto a segment
of the fault line near the capital.

Brandy
Mullenbach smiles happily after receiving the keys to her new
home from Michael Kubat. Mullenbach's home is the 15th to be
completed by the Logan County Habitat for Humanity.
The home, located on North Adams in Lincoln, is a refurbish of a
property donated to Habitat by St. Clara’s Manor in Lincoln. The
home was not in good shape when the Habitat team started on it,
but now it has been completely remodeled and is indeed lovely.
Habitat homes are not gifts. Recipients work on Habitat
projects, plus they have a mortgage to pay as well as property
taxes, things that Mullenbach is looking forward to as she
becomes a homeowner for the first time.
