Recognition of the
Lincoln College Men's Basketball Team
WHEREAS, Lincoln College strives to
provide students with the best educational experience possible along
with opportunities to succeed academically and in extra-curricular
activities, and
WHEREAS, the basketball program at
Lincoln College has a well-deserved reputation for its successful
seasons, winning the last four conference championships, and
WHEREAS, Lincoln College finished this
year's season with a 28-17 record, and
WHEREAS, the Lynx became
only the third team in National Junior College Athletic
Association Division II history to repeat as national
champions by defeating the top-seeded Mott Community College,
74-67, in the championship game on March 19, 2011, and
WHEREAS, Wes Dawson
led Lincoln in scoring in the championship game, with 20 points and
seven rebounds, and Kiel Turpin finished with 19 points and seven
rebounds, despite playing just 27 minutes of the game because of a
sprained ankle, and
WHEREAS, Kiel
Turpin became the second player in
NJCAA Division II history to be named Most Valuable Player for the
national tournament for a second consecutive year, and,
WHEREAS
Louie Schonauer received the Fred Pohlman Sportsmanship Award at the
national tournament for the second year in a row, and
WHEREAS, Lincoln College Men's
Basketball Coach Kirk Whiteman was named Coach of the Year at the
national tournament for the second straight year,
NOW THEREFORE the Logan County Board
congratulates the
Lincoln College Men's Basketball Team and coaches Kirk Whiteman,
Cory Farmer, Ryan Cross, Tanner Morris and Chad Harmon on their
team's achievement and wishes them continued success in their future
endeavors.

Recognition of the
Lincoln College Wrestling Team
WHEREAS, wrestling
is a tactical, mental and physical sport of strength, power and
agility with benefits that reach far beyond wins, losses and
championships, and
WHEREAS, wrestling allows participants to develop good personal
discipline as well as self-confidence that can be used both on and
off the mat, and
WHEREAS, being a winning wrestler requires speed, flexibility,
stamina, and strategy, and
WHEREAS, Lincoln College's mission is to help students develop their
potential, and competitive sports provides an opportunity to do
that, and
WHEREAS, the Lincoln College Wrestling Team finished their season
with a 12-2 record, and
WHEREAS, the Lynx wrestling team placed sixth in the
national tournament of the National Junior College Athletic
Association Division II on February
26, 2011, and
WHEREAS, six Lincoln College wrestlers earned spots on the
All-American team, including D'Marcus Spencer at 133 lbs, 6th place;
DaMonte Riley at 141 lbs., 3rd place; Mark Marianovich at 149 lbs,.
4th place; James Haywood at 174 lbs, 5th place; Michael Johnson at
184 lbs, 7th place, and Fred Moses at 197 lbs., 7th place,

THEREFORE the Logan County Board
congratulates the Lincoln College Wrestling Team and Head Coach Dave
Klemm and Assistant Coaches Steven Bradley, Jason Hoffman, Bryan
Morgan, Bob Turley and TJ Williams on the team's achievements and
wishes them continued success in their future endeavors.

Recognition of the Girls Basketball Team
Zion Lutheran School, Lincoln
WHEREAS,
participating in athletics helps students learn teamwork,
sportsmanship, and the skills to handle competitive situations, and
WHEREAS, studies have shown that girls receive as many benefits from
sports as boys, and
WHEREAS, the girls basketball team at Zion Lutheran School in
Lincoln completed their season with a 27-5 record, and
WHEREAS, the Zion Lutheran Lady Eagles won the 8th Grade Girls
Basketball Logan County Championship, and
WHEREAS, the Zion Lutheran team won the 16-team Edwardsville-Trinity
Lutheran School Tip-Off Tournament in December, and
WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles took fourth place at the Lutheran Schools
State Tournament of Champions at Arlington Heights, IL on March 6,
2011, and
WHEREAS, Faith Smith and Grace Walters were chosen for the State
All-Tournament Team, and Grace Walters was the third leading scorer
in the tournament with a total of 50 points,

THEREFORE the Logan County Board
congratulates Zion Lutheran School girls' basketball team members
Faith Smith, Allie Cox, Grace Walters, Caitlin Williams, Elizabeth
Tripplett, Lexie Groves, Lizzie Ford, Rachel Lockenour, Anna
Walters, Anna Sielaff, Hailie Williams and Brooklyn Hermes, and
coaches Todd Koehler and Bob Cox, on their team's achievements and
wishes them continued success in their future endeavors.
