A group of eight teachers attended two Saturday workshops at the Montessori Children's House of Lincoln, coming from the Illinois communities of Manhattan and Mahomet. The teachers learned new methods the same way their students learn: by being involved and being part of the process.

Bethany Vickers is certified as a Master Teacher by the Pan American Montessori Society. She has 30 years of Montessori teaching experience and has conducted workshops for numerous groups in several states.

Montessori Children's House of Lincoln is located at 406 Keokuk. To contact the school for more information on the Montessori method of learning, call 732-6104.

Montessori is not a traditional method of teaching or learning. Classes are small, and teachers and students interact in a more casual manner than in public school classrooms. While critics abound, the public school system has, over time, adopted some of the Montessori methods.
