[May 09, 2011]  Lincoln is an attractive, vibrant, small community in central Illinois. It has a picturesque, active and historic downtown. As part of Main Street Lincoln's revitalization efforts, the organization takes pride in bringing people downtown to the Courthouse Square Historic District. Through the cooperative efforts of both the retail businesses and restaurants, Main Street is eager to create an atmosphere of community celebration. They want to see friends and family together to enjoy a variety of activities, music and great food. Their next planned community activity, the second annual Honest Abe's Barbeque Cook Off, is scheduled for June 11.

In addition to the barbecue, there will be a dedication at 9:30 a.m. of their hanging flower baskets as part of the new streetscape project. Immediately following the ceremony, the barbecue vendors will start selling their products at 10 a.m. Judging will begin at noon and winners will be announced at 2:30 p.m., with trophies and cash prizes awarded.

Main Street invites you to join their cook-off. Your application is waiting for you at 109 S. Kickapoo St. They also are ready to answer all questions about the event if you call the office, 217-732-2929. Join Main Street Lincoln for a great day and some good eating.
