Burgrabe's Eagles open season with road win

[May 23, 2011]  MOUNT PULASKI -- Burgrabe's Eagles, Lincoln's softball team for 11- and 12-year-old girls, opened the season with a 6-2 victory on Frazier Field in Mount Pulaski.

InsuranceHeather Curry pitched two solid innings with two strikeouts and allowed just two hits.  Grace Skelton closed out the game with two strikeouts and no hits allowed, preserving the win.

Gracie Hemenway led the Eagles off with a triple, followed by an RBI double from Brooklyn Hermes. Hermes scored after Kalyn Roberts worked a bases-loaded walk from the Mount Pulaski starter.

The second inning started with a single by Curry, followed by two walks, a hit batter, and then Curry scored on a walk to Hemenway.

Jazzminn Morecraft led off the third inning with a single and scored on a single by Sydney Johnson followed by a single from Danielle Burgrabe. Curry then broke the game wide open with a two-RBI double, scoring Johnson and Burgrabe.

Burgrabe's Eagles next will be in action in a June 1 rematch against Mount Pulaski in Lincoln.
