[November 04, 2011] (AP) Wet weather will move into the Mid-Atlantic states on Friday while snow and rain showers persist in the West.

A strong low pressure system that brought heavy rain and strong winds to the Ohio and Tennessee valleys will continue moving eastward and move off the Eastern Seaboard by evening. This system will produce heavy rains for the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic states before moving offshore. Expect rainfall totals to range from 1 to 2 inches with strong winds gusting up to 40 and 50 mph. Behind this system, cold air pours into the Plains from central Canada. This allows for daytime highs to range in the 50s and 60s for the southern Plains. Frost and freeze advisories have been issued for northern Texas and Oklahoma as overnight lows may dip into the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Meanwhile, out West, a trough of low pressure over the Pacific Northwest advances southward and into the Southwest. This will continue pushing a cold front eastward over the Intermountain West and into the Great Basin. This system will produce more rain and snow showers throughout the day. A winter weather advisory has been issued for the northern Sierra Nevadas as snowfall accumulation may reach up to 6 inches above 7,000 feet. As this front passes, expect a few widespread scattered showers to linger over the Pacific Northwest and northern California.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a morning low of minus 11 degrees at Laramie, Wyo., to a high of 85 degrees at Inverness, Fla.
