Everyone 6 months
of age and older should get a flu vaccine. This includes all
children from age 6 months up to their 19th birthday.

If a child is
receiving flu vaccine for the first time, the child will need
two doses, spaced four weeks apart.

Children commonly
need medical care because of influenza, especially before they
turn 5 years old.

Severe influenza
complications are most common in children younger than 2 years
old.

Children with chronic health problems
like asthma and diabetes are at especially high risk of
developing serious flu complications.
The hours for vaccines at the health department are
Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is
required. The influenza vaccine will also be available on the HOPE
Mobile during its regularly scheduled stops.
The cost of the seasonal flu shot is $30 for adults, $16.75 for
children 6 months through 18 years of age who have no health
insurance or health insurance that doesn't cover vaccines, and free
to those with a Medicaid or Medicare card.
