Question: What
do I do if I receive a traffic ticket?
Answer:
On the back of the
green copy of the ticket you received there are instructions for
complying with the terms of the ticket.
You are given a
choice to plead either guilty or not guilty. If you plead not
guilty, you have a choice of a trial by judge or a trial by jury.
You must mail in
your choice at least ten days before the court date set on your
ticket. A new appearance date will then be set and you will be
notified of the date and time of trial. When you come to court, you
must bring any evidence or witnesses you have on that date.
If you plead
guilty, you must complete the form on the back of the ticket with
your current address. You must sign the "Plea of Guilty and Waiver"
section at the bottom of the ticket.

You must then mail
the ticket with the fine to the address noted in the "Court Place /
Date" section on the bottom half of the front of the ticket. Do not
mail cash. You may use a money order, certified check, bank draft,
or travelers check.
You must mail the
ticket no earlier than 10 work days after the ticket was issued and
no later than 3 work days before court.
The current cost of
most traffic offenses is $120.00.
