Snow will fal l in the cooler areas in Illinois and Indiana, while additional snow will fall in the higher elevations of the Appalachian Mountains. Elsewhere, moderate to occasionally heavy rain will fall through the
upper Midwest and Northeast, possibly causing some travel chaos in and around the larger cities. Residents through the Northeast should monitor local weather conditions as this storm passes.
In the West, a Pacific storm will slam into the Northwest, producing rain and high-elevation snow in Washington and Oregon. Some of this snow may make its way into Idaho and Montana, but states to the south will remain dry.
A large high pressure system will settle into the Plains, producing dry conditions that will accompany the cold air that will plunge into that part of the country from Canada.
The Northeast will rise into the 60s, while the upper Midwest will see temperatures in the 30s and 40s. The Southwest will rise into the 60s and 70s, while the Northwest will see temperatures in the 30s and 40s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a morning low of 6 degrees at Gunnison, Colo., to a high of 84 degrees at Sanford, Fla.
