Brooks receives further training as deputy coroner

[October 01, 2011]  Doug Brooks, Logan County deputy coroner, recently attended the 18th annual Medico-legal Death and Homicide Investigation Conference in Collinsville. The conference was hosted by the Illinois Coroners and Medical Examiners Association and sanctioned by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

Seminar presentations were on these topics: "Bringing the Crime Scene to the Courtroom," "911 Homicide Calls -- Is the Caller the Killer" and "Crime Assessment." Instructors were Rod Englert, qualified court expert on crime scene reconstruction and blood spatter analysis; Lt Tracey Harpster, Moraine Police Department, Ohio; and Dr. Richard Walter, 22-year veteran prison psychologist, Michigan Department of Corrections.

Over 100 coroners, deputy coroners and law enforcement officers from throughout Illinois were in attendance.

Brooks also was recently presented a certificate of successful completion by the Illinois Valley Crime Prevention Commission for his participation in a one-day training at the LaSalle County Sheriff's Office on "Investigating Gang Related Homicides."
