[October 24, 2011]  Lincoln Junior High School students, staff and administrators attended an assembly on Friday as a kickoff to Red Ribbon Week, an annual weeklong focus on drug awareness and anti-drug activity. LJHS is one of many schools in District 27, Logan County and across the country that will have special events Oct. 24-28 for Red Ribbon Week.

HardwareLJHS teacher Sherrie Sparrow emceed the kickoff games and turned the microphone over to coaches and sponsors of sports teams, organizations and clubs for introduction of members. Cheerleaders and the pompon squad performed and encouraged excitement for the sports teams and the school.

Some of the activities involve wearing strange clothing and hats that reflect a phrase or theme for a day, making a statement about the anti-drug program. The color red is used on objects involved with promoting the message. For example, on Tuesday the theme at LJHS is "Drugs turn you inside out." Students are allowed to wear their clothes inside out or backward. Thursday is "Wear Red" day.

Each school has a schedule of events that parents should check out in order to support the cause and help students participate.
