News & Information
Our goal is to provide as much information to our farmers, ranchers, landowners, agribusinesses, non-farm orientated citizens, students, and future email subscribers in the quickest, cheapest, and most efficient way. Issuing press releases and regular newsletters fulfill our minimal requirements in publicizing information, but as we have learned over the years, it's not enough. The Logan County E-News will be published periodically and used solely to compliment the other avenues of our information dissemination needs. Subscription is free and the advice is still cheap. We do not discriminate. If you know someone that wants to subscribe, share this E-News with them. If you know someone is not getting their E-News, they should contact our office or check with their Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Email provider and flag the Logan County E-News as "non-spam" or "acceptable". Every time we issue E-News publications, we receive several returned messages due to the security filters your ISP uses.

Topics Covered:
*Livestock Indemnity Program*
The Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) provides assistance to livestock owners and contract growers who experience livestock death losses in excess of *normal mortality due to adverse weather conditions. To be eligible for LIP, an owner’s livestock must not have been produced for reasons other than commercial use as a part of a farming operation. This includes wild free roaming animals, or animals used for recreational purposes such as hunting, pets, roping or for show.
The extreme heat that we are experiencing across the state is an eligible cause of death loss. The requirements for Extreme Heat are if the Temperature Humidity Index (THI) exceeds 84 for at least two consecutive days and the THI does not fall below 75 for two consecutive nights prior to death.
Q: What are the normal mortality rates?
A: Each species is assigned a mortality rate according to 1 LDAP exhibit 8:

Q: What paperwork needs to be filled out right now?
A: You must file a Notice of Loss (FSA-576 form) to your local FSA County Office within 30 calendar days of the livestock loss. This is a vital part of the application process!
Q: What do I need to show proof of livestock loss?
A: To complete an application for payment all livestock owners and livestock contract growers must provide the following for evidence:
· Proof of Beginning and Ending Inventory
o Verifiable inventory evidence examples include: Veterinary records, cancelled check documentation, balance sheets, inventory records used for tax purposes, loan records, bank statements, farm credit balance sheets, property tax records, brand inspection records, sales and purchase receipts, private insurance documents, chattel inspections. 1-LDAP Par. 73H.
· Proof of Death
o Verifiable death evidence examples include: rendering truck receipts or certificates. In addition, the participant may provide reliable records in conjunction with verifiable beginning and ending inventory records as proof of death. Reliable records may include: contemporaneous producer records existing at the time of the event, pictures with a date, brand inspection records, dairy herd improvement records, and other similar reliable documents.
*Important: There are no late-filed provisions for LIP
Please give our office a call if you are experiencing livestock losses due to the extreme heat.
