In their home opener on Sept. 1, the LCU Red Lions beat Grace Bible
College from Grand Rapids, Mich., in three games: 25-13, 25-14,
25-16. Their second match on the same day, against Eureka
College, proved to be another easy three-game win: 25-7, 25-15,
25-20.
Competition was tougher as they headed into a tournament at
Augustana College in Rock Island over Labor Day weekend, playing
three NCAA Division III teams and one NAIA team. They lost to St.
Ambrose University, Augustana College and Central College but
rallied to beat Buena Vista University in an exciting five-game
match.
After being named to the all-tournament team, senior Jamie
McFadden said she was honored to be chosen, but that it was really
her team that makes her look good. She said that individual awards
always reflect a team effort and good coaching.
