"Join the Revolution of Responsibility" is the theme for this year's
4-H Week events, here and across the country. Logan County 4-H clubs
have created window displays in their local community and posters
for display in their schools. Recent findings from Tufts
University's "4-H Study of Positive Youth Development" indicate that
young people in 4-H are three times more likely to contribute to
their communities than youth who don't participate in 4-H. The Tufts
research discovered that the structured learning, encouragement and
adult mentoring that 4-H'ers receive play a vital role in helping
them actively contribute to their communities.
In Logan County, more than 250 youth and 55 adult volunteers are
part of the 4-H program -- and there's always room for more.
Conducted by University of Illinois Extension, 4-H is open to boys
and girls ages 8-19, wherever they live. The 4-H clubs consist of
five or more members and have meetings six or more times per year.
For more information on how you can become involved or start your
own 4-H club, contact the Logan County Extension office at 732-8289.
