[September 30, 2011] (AP) The Northeast and Great Lakes will see another wet day, while the upper Midwest will see some chilly fall weather on Friday. A strong low pressure system over the Great Lakes will slowly start to advance eastward and farther over the Northeast.

However, rain showers associated with this system will persist through the weekend, from the Great Lakes to the Eastern Seaboard. Expect flooding to remain of concern for the northeastern Pennsylvania and western New York. Rainfall totals will range from 1 to 2 inches across the Northeast.

At the same time, the backside of this system will continue producing windy conditions across the upper Great Lakes on Friday. Wind advisories remain in effect as high wind gusts will reach up to 50 and 60 mph across Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. A few showers may linger over the Midwest as a cold front associated with this system slowly drags through the Midwest and extends up the Ohio River Valley.

To the west, expect more mild weather as a dominant ridge remains the main weather feature from the West Coast to the Plains. This ridge will push moisture away, allowing for sunny skies and warm temperatures to persist. Most of the Rockies will remain unseasonably warm with highs in the lower 80s. A few scattered thunderstorms may pop up in the afternoon hours, due to warm and sunny conditions. These storms are not expected to turn severe.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a morning low of 23 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 100 degrees at Georgetown, Texas.
