Tim Johnson has served the citizens of Central Illinois with
distinction over the last twelve years in the United States
Congress.
He is a good friend, and I wish him well in all his endeavors as
he retires from public service.
Tim is a determined campaigner, and I have no doubts he would
have kept his record of never losing an election intact if he
were on the ballot this fall.
I have been encouraged by many to seek the nomination to fill
the vacancy created by Tim’s decision and am flattered by their
support. I have given it thoughtful consideration.
At this time, I believe the interests of Illinois are better
served if I stay focused on the challenges facing the state.
I will continue my efforts toward rebuilding a business climate
that fosters job creation for Illinois families, a resolution to
the massive spending problems facing Illinois today and reform
of the state’s public pension system to protect both public
employees and taxpayers.
