New signs that recount the history of Elkhart, points of interest in
Elkhart, information about the hill and one sign with the Elkhart
logo complete the display.
In addition, both Lincoln Heritage signs in the display area now
have telephone number access codes allowing visitors to call by
cellphone and hear "Abe" share a message about the signs. The
Lincoln Heritage signs are part of the Illinois Abraham Lincoln
Bicentennial Commission program and capture the legacy of Abraham
Lincoln's involvement in Logan County. One sign depicts the history
of Lincoln, the Latham family and the Kentucky House in Elkhart. The
other sign depicts the connection between Lincoln and the early
families of Elkhart.
The Heritage Corner display is a place of interest for the
community, historians and visitors to the village.
Elkhart is planning special spring events April 13-15 and April
21-22. Events include an art exhibition and wildflower-themed art
classes at Dragonfly Art Studio, a special display and tour of
Elkhart Library, a wildflower-themed dinner lecture, and wildflower
nature walks. Both weekends will feature the Elkhart Vintage Market
and special sales in the shops in the historic downtown.
