Virgil W. McCann, 88, of Lincoln, died Monday, April 9, 2012, at
3:30 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

LINCOLN-Virgil W. McCann, 88, of Lincoln died at
3:30 p.m. on April 9, 2012 at Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.
Virgil was born on March 3, 1924 in Bryant, IL the
son of Willard Clinton and Goldie Mae Pollitt
McCann. He married Norma Sappington on April 5, 1952
in Pekin, IL. She survives in Lincoln.
Virgil is also survived by one son: Gordon R.
McCann; one daughter: Luann (Ken) Zessin of Lincoln;
five grandchildren: Tonya McCann of Lincoln; Shannon
(Michael) Evans of Lincoln; Shana Reed-Harper of
Homer; Kenny Zessin II and Luke Zessin, both of
Lincoln; ten great grandchildren and one great great
granddaughter. He is the last of his immediate
family. He was preceded by his parents; three
brothers and four sisters.

Virgil was a member of the Jefferson Street
Christian Church; Loyal Order of Moose #1441. He was
an apprentice tool and die maker for Ford Motor Co.
in Chicago, IL. He had worked for 25 years at
Cutler-Hammer, Lincoln as a tool and die maker. He
was an avid amateur Ham Radio Operator, raced stock
cars and over the years he enjoyed making jewelry
and tools. He was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather and will be missed by all.
Services for Virgil will be Monday, April 16 at 2:00
p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home,
Lincoln, with Pastor Larry Crawford officiating.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.
prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the
March of Dimes, Ansar Shrine, or Donor's Choice.
