The Mount Pulaski Vonderlieth
Living Center annually treats all its volunteers to a beautiful
and tasty luncheon in the large activity room.
This year's event was on Tuesday and was hosted by Vonderlieth
director Jo Hilliard, activities director
Pam McCarty, her assistant Michelle Tremaine and other members of
the staff.
There is always a treat in
store: this year, the rambunctious "Route 66 Quartet" out of
Springfield's Land of Lincoln Chorus. Their parting song was Ricky
Nelson's "Hello Mary Lou ... you passed me by one sunny day ... flashing
those big brown eyes my way." Needless to say, a huge round of
applause followed each and every song they rendered.
The hosts served a hot,
delicious bacon-wrapped breast of chicken smothered in a tasty
mushroom gravy, along with bacon-wrapped green beans, diced creamy
potatoes, iced tea and coffee. The meal was capped off with an elegant serving of a bottom-crusted
gelatin dessert square topped with a strawberry half atop a dab of
whipped cream. The din of conversation offered by all the smiling and laughing
volunteers at each table was proof enough of the success of this
annual and grateful venture.
