anniversary Girl Scout exhibit & program May 5 at Vachel Lindsay

SPRINGFIELD -- "Girl Scouts -- 100
Years and Counting," a special 100th anniversary exhibit and
program, is planned for May 5, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Vachel
Lindsay Home State Historic Site, 603 S. Fifth St. in Springfield.

The Girl Scout 100th anniversary exhibit will feature historic and
current Girl Scout memorabilia; contemporary photographs and
photo-inspired art created by current Girl Scouts and professional
Springfield artists and friends of Girl Scouts Julie Hulvey and
Janice Chan; portraits and quotes of Girl Scout alumnae, including
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Miss Illinois 2008; "The
World in 1912"; and "Collections of 100." Vintage uniforms will be
modeled by present-day Girl Scouts.
A special program will take place at 2:30 p.m., "Girl Scouts: 100
Years of Tradition and Innovation." Attendees will have the
opportunity to share their thoughts on the future of Girl Scouting
and to be photographed by the award-winning photographers of Troop
6400 with the camera the troop purchased with their 2008 cookie
profits. A 100th anniversary time capsule will be created that day,
and attendees are asked to bring an item to be put in the time
capsule.
Refreshments will include Girl Scout cookies.

The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are

The
Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site is the birthplace
and longtime residence of poet, author and artist Nicholas Vachel
Lindsay, 1879-1931. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. for free public tours.
