[August 03, 2012]  BALTIMORE (AP) -- Cal Ripken is preparing to speak out about his mother's kidnapping last week.

The Hall of Fame infielder has scheduled a news conference for Friday morning in Baltimore, when he's expected to provide an update on the investigation and make a statement.

Ripken's 74-year-old mother, Vi, told police she was kidnapped at gunpoint last week, blindfolded and driven around. She was found unharmed in her car the following day.

Aberdeen, Md., police have released a sketch and video of the suspect, but have provided few details.

The news conference will be at the B&O Warehouse at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Ripken's home stadium for years with the Baltimore Orioles.
