[August 13, 2012]  An excited Logan County family is seeing their dream of homeownership come true. On Sunday at 2:30 p.m., Habitat for Humanity will welcome the public to the groundbreaking of its 17th Habitat home. All in attendance are invited to turn over a shovelful of dirt.

Harley and Chaka Utterback and their family are partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Logan County to build their new home at 825 Decatur St. in Lincoln. The lot for this home was donated to Habitat by the Marie Lucas Trust.

The Utterback home is made possible through the generosity of Robert J. Woods and Joan Jarrett Woods through the Woods Foundation.

Participants in the groundbreaking ceremony will be Michael Irwin, president of Habitat for Humanity of Logan County; the Rev. Father Fontana of Holy Family Catholic Church; Mike Kubat and Bill Sahs, co-foremen of the build; Larry Martincic, family selection chair; Steve Allen, family mentor; Mayor Keith Snyder; and William B. Bates, representing the Woods Foundation and its grant to Habitat.

When construction begins, Habitat will welcome volunteers to help with the construction of the home. Information will be posted on the Habitat website, www.habitatlogan.org, under the "Build Schedule" tab, detailing the type of work to be done each day.

Churches and other organizations may schedule work crews to help in the build by contacting Bill Sahs or Mike Kubat. They may also leave messages with Habitat at 217-732-6412 or email Habitat at hfh@habitatlogan.org. Those who are not part of a work crew are welcome to just show up on a work day. Work for volunteers is generally scheduled from 8 to 3 on Fridays and Saturdays.
