Devin Biggs caught this picture of a small funnel cloud east of Lincoln at approximately 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. He contacted Dan Fulscher of the Logan County Emergency Management Agency, who confirmed it was a funnel. Later he spoke with meteorologist Chris Miller of the National Weather Service in Lincoln for an explanation of what was going on that evening in the skies. Miller told Biggs: "There was a weak boundary (or weak front if you prefer) that some cumulus clouds rapidly developed on. There was just enough moisture to get these clouds going, and enough difference in temperature on either side of the boundary to create updrafts." Today's forecast also includes the opportunity for developing severe storms. Photo by Devin Biggs (Click on photo for larger image.) |
