[August 24, 2012]  MILAN (AP) -- Authorities are searching for two men who shot and killed an organized crime boss who was vacationing on a beach with his family south of Rome.

Police say Gaetano Marino -- a boss from the Neopolitan Camorroa -- was hit by at least four shots to the head and another five or six to his back Thursday afternoon as he left the beach en route to his hotel in Terracina, 100 kilometers (60 miles) south of Rome in Lazio province. His family was already in the hotel.

Marino, 48, headed the Scissionisti clan and his killing was being investigated as a hit by rivals.

He had lost both hands in an explosion while planting a bomb in the 1990s and created controversy by appearing in a TV audience this year.
