Downtown Lincoln on Friday
evening offered an array of experiences -- all fun, friendly and
relaxed.
Sunset: calm, 92 degrees, laughter; the start of Lincoln's 39th Art
Fair, 24th Balloon Festival, ninth Art of Wine and second Kansas City
Barbeque Society competition.
If strolling the streets, some of what you might have seen would
have been the Mounted Sheriff's Auxiliary watching over artworks. A
family finishing a little artwork promoting the library book sale.
Strange objects on rooftops. A foreign language-speaking family
enjoying themselves, and a fire engine on display. If you look closely,
you can see the smoke coming off the Silver Bullet Smokers sign.
From one competitor site to the next, friends gathered to tell
stories, laugh. And, you would have heard musical notes from The Art
of Wine tent as they wafted over the courthouse square, mingling with
aromas of barbecue wood smoke.
For the most part, it was simply a unique and special time to just
be together with friends and families.
This weekend thousands of visitors will come to our city. Show them
what a good place this is to be. Be patient and be kind.
