 Counterclockwise flow around this system will continue pushing water onshore while producing heavy rains and strong winds from eastern Texas through Mississippi and Alabama. The storm system is capable of producing 4 to 6 inches of rain over most areas, with up to 10 inches possible Wednesday in southeastern Louisiana. This will create flooding problems for the next few days. Expect winds to range from 39 to 73 mph in the storm area.
Elsewhere across the nation, higher pressure continues to build from the Plains through the East Coast, maintaining warm and sunny conditions. High temperatures will range in the 70s across the Northeast and into the 80s across the Midwest.
Out West, the fire danger remains high as a ridge of high pressure continues to dominate the Western states. This creates another hot, dry and sunny day across the intermountain West, northern California
and the Great Basin, as well as the central and northern Rockies.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states ranged Tuesday from a morning low of 30 degrees at Truckee-Tahoe, Calif., to a high of 108 degrees at Palm Springs, Calif.
