[November 30, 2012]  Lincoln College's Iota Chi Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will sell handmade ornaments in December to raise funds for Special Olympics.

The bead and lace ornaments, which include wreaths, bells and candy canes, will be sold for $1 to $2 on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at IGA and Kroger in Lincoln.

Anyone wishing to purchase ornaments at another time can do so by contacting chapter adviser Spring Hyde, an assistant professor of English, at 217-871-9639 or shyde@lincolncollege.edu.

Phi Theta Kappa is the premier national honor society for junior colleges. Each year, the Iota Chi Chapter at Lincoln College determines which projects they will support.

The chapter president is Hannah Singleton, a sophomore from South Pekin.

When asked about the chapter's choice to support Special Olympics, she responded: "Each year, Phi Theta Kappa assigns an 'Honors in Action' study topic. This year's study topic was 'The Culture of Competition,' and Iota Chi Chapter has chosen to support Special Olympics in their endeavors to provide athletic competitions to children and adults with disabilities."
