            		NEW HOLLAND -- David LaForge, 86, of 
			Lincoln, formerly of New Holland, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at 
			6:55 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor in Lincoln. (Below is a copy of 
							the obituary from the funeral home.) ___ 
							NEW HOLLAND-David LaForge, 86, of Lincoln, formerly 
							of New Holland died at 6:55 p.m. on Sunday, December 
							23, 2012 at St. Clara's Manor, Lincoln. 
							David was born May 16, 1926 in New Holland, 
							Illinois, the son of William and Bertha LaForge. He 
							married Ann Barclay in Peoria, IL on June 18, 1950. 
							She preceded him in death. 
							David is survived by three children: Pam Fox of 
							Peoria, IL; Grant (Kathi) LaForge of New Holland on 
							the home farm; Kevin (Kimberly) LaForge of Powell, 
							TX; five grandchildren and seven great grand 
							children; a sister Eleanor (Bill) Crum of 
							Hendersonville, NC; twin brothers William, of 
							Lincoln and Wayne (Pat) LaForge of New Holland; 
							David is preceded in death by his sister, Margaret 
							Parr and one great grandson. 
							David served in World War II and was attached to 
							Headquarters U.S. Forces in Austria until being 
							discharged in February 1947. 
							David started farming in 1948 and farmed for over 40 
							years. He was co-sponsor of the Sheridan Township 
							Goodwill Fund, and was a 50 year member of the 
							Legion Porter Bell Post #715 of which he served as 
							commander. | 
                    
					 
							David was very active in New Holland and was the 
							first one in the area to farm no-till. He was a 
							member of Soil Saver and Farm Bureau. He also was 
							the past chairman of the Logan County Extension 
							Council. He started the New Holland Rescue Squad 
							with his wife, Ann, and they both ran it for 10 
							years until moving to Lincoln. 
							Upon retirement, David kept busy working for the 
							Lincoln Food Pantry, volunteered at the Abraham 
							Lincoln Memorial Hospital, LAMBS chorale, the Red 
							Cross Blood Bank, Junior Golf, and was director of 
							Community Concerts as well as the president of the 
							Oasis Senior Center. He was past exalted ruler of 
							Lincoln Elks #914. 
							As to David's hobbies, he lists them as traveling 
							(not just in the states but to visit other 
							cultures), refinishing furniture and golfing. 
							David was a member of the Baha'i Faith, which 
							encompasses all of the world's nine revealed 
							religions, has a North American temple in Wilmette 
							and its World Headquarters in Haifa, Israel. 
							Funeral services will be held at 
							Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln, 
							at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday December 26, 2012 with Mary 
							Anne Crenshaw and Katy Crenshaw, Readers 
							officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to 
							the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial 
							will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland. In 
							lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oasis 
							Senior Center. |
