CARLOCK -- David Manabu Onuma, 63, of
rural Carlock, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 1:50 p.m. at
Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Carlock David Manabu Onuma, age 63, of
rural Carlock, IL, went to be with the Lord with his
family by his side on December 22, 2012 at 1:50 p.m.
at Advocate BroMenn Hospital in Normal, IL.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 27 from 5-7
p.m. with a celebration of life service following at
Beck's Funeral Home, 209 E. Grove St,
Bloomington, IL with pastors Dennis and Gale
Sheehan, brothers-in-law, officiating.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, December
28 at Lake Bank Cemetery, Mt. Pulaski, IL.
David was born on October 18, 1949 in Chicago, IL to
Donald and Helen Munekiyo Onuma, who both preceded
him in death. He married Angela M. Sheehan in
Springfield, IL on August 22, 1981; she survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Kaitlin D' Angela
Onuma.
David graduated from Illinois State University with
honors in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in sociology
followed by a master's degree in 1975. He also did
post-graduate work at Washington University in St.
Louis. He enjoyed being a professor of sociology and
coaching varsity men's and women's tennis at Eureka
College from 1975-1985. David joined State Farm
Insurance Co. in 1986 where he worked in the areas
of claims adjusting and education/training. He
earned his CPCU designation in 1995, and also many
other insurance certifications during his years at
State Farm. He retired after 26 years of service on
June 1, 2012.

He was an avid ISU and White Sox fan, as well as
softball, bowling, tennis, and all-around game
enthusiast. One of his greatest joys was coaching
and seeing his daughter Katie excel in sports.
A memorial message: "To everything there is a
season, and a time to every purpose under heaven: a
time to be born, a time to die... a time to remember
and honor David Onuma, a loving husband, Dad, son,
uncle, nephew, cousin, colleague, and friend."
