(AP) More active weather
is anticipated in the East on Thursday. In the north, wintry
precipitation in northern New England will taper down as the trough
of low pressure affecting the region exits and high pressure builds
in from the northwest.

 To the
south, a cold front over the eastern valleys will drop southeastward as it pushes toward the East Coast, bringing light to moderate showers and thunderstorms to areas from the Gulf Coast through the Tennessee Valley and the Mid-Atlantic. As this front progresses, cooler temperatures will return to the eastern third of the nation.
In the West, the frontal system from the Northwest will drop across the Great Basin with rain, high-elevation snowfall and gusty winds, while its associated trough moves through the Four Corners. Energy from this system will aid in strengthening low pressure in the
southern High Plains, triggering clusters of strong thunderstorms in parts of the
southern Plains. Strong storms in north-central Texas and parts of southern Oklahoma may turn severe with large hail and possible tornadoes.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a morning low of
minus 13 degrees at Pinedale, Wyo., to a high of 138 degrees at Pauls Valley, Okla.
