M. Maxine Maurice, born Mabel Maxine Reiners on November 5, 1927 in Lincoln, IL, died peacefully at home in Oceanside, CA on February 2, 2012. Maxine was predeceased by her 3 daughters. She is survived by a son, 4 step-children, 9 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren.
Maxine grew up in Lincoln, IL, moving to California in 1960 where she lived in Orange, San Juan Capistrano and Oceanside. She attended nursing school in Chicago in the 1940’s and used knowledge gained there for the rest of her life. She was an American National Red Cross Swimming, Life-Saving and Water Safety Instructor who taught 2000 kids to swim in both Illinois and California. She was a dedicated Girl Scout Leader beginning as a young adult in Illinois and continuing into mid-life in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Maxine worked as a secretary, astounding her bosses with her ability to take dictation directly onto a typewriter - she could really burn up the keys! She also worked part-time as a bookkeeper for nearly 60 years. The job she loved most was as Director of the Chamber of Commerce in San Juan Capistrano, CA. She organized many memorable events, met a number of dignitaries, including then Governor Jerry Brown, and impressed everyone with her energy and enthusiastic friendliness.
There will be a gravesite service on Friday, February 10, 2012 at El Toro Memorial Park, 25751 Trabuco Road, Lake Forest, CA. Donations to Elizabeth Hospice are requested in lieu of flowers.
