The special guest of the day is this elegant cake, derived from a French chef's recipe and first created for the Todd family as a sheet cake.  It was later transformed into a lovely layer cake by a White House chef.

The story of the special cake that was first prepared for the Marquis de Lafayette when he visited the Todds of Lexington, Ky. Later it would be used by Mary Todd as she wooed a proposal out of Abraham Lincoln.

 

Samantha Bishop of Hopedale arrives with her grandmother Chris Huff. The two began their day at Postville Courthouse, then drove to Mount Pulaski to celebrate Abe's 203rd there as well.

The first visitors of the day complete their tours. Before having a piece of cake, they stop long enough to pose for Phil Bertoni's camera.
