Snow and light freezing drizzle in area forecast, with winter advisory to the south and west

[February 13, 2012]  Early Monday morning the National Weather Service in Lincoln issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of central, east-central and southeastern Illinois.

This outlook was released at 5:37 a.m. for the counties of Cass, Champaign, Christian, Clark, Clay, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Effingham, Fulton, Jasper, Knox, Lawrence, Logan, Macon, Marshall, Mason, McLean, Menard, Morgan, Moultrie, Peoria, Piatt, Richland, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Shelby, Stark, Tazewell, Vermilion and Woodford:

Snow will spread across central and southeast Illinois today, especially during the afternoon hours. Once the snow develops, it is expected to linger into this evening. Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are anticipated before the snow tapers off.

However, when the snow tapers off, a period of freezing drizzle will occur. The snow and freezing drizzle will create slippery driving conditions on untreated roadways.

No hazardous weather is expected Tuesday through Sunday.
