Student drivers such as Troy Rawlings of New Holland were en route to school as early as 5:45 a.m. Other drivers included Todd Irwin, Nick Davis, Kyle Klockenga, Ryan Hedrick and Clay Irwin, who pickup-truck-pooled from their remote parking area to curbside the cafeteria. Inside, everyone was enjoying an FFA-sponsored toasty, farm-style breakfast including biscuits and gravy.

[February 25, 2012]  Lincoln Community High School's Future Farmers of America wrapped up a week of activities with a breakfast and Tractor Day.

Mr. Jacob Hunter, who is in his first year at LCHS, teaches Intro to Ag, Ag Science, Ag Management and Horticulture classes. He is proud of what the students and teachers are doing.

"I'm excited for the program heading in the right direction," he said.

HardwareTeachers have been very supportive and involved with the students, and the students are involved in a lot.

While the snow was flying on Friday morning, student Troy Rawlins said he was glad for the heater in the warm tractor cab. He left for school at 5:45 a.m., before the sun was up. He was also going to leave school early to get back home because he had cattle to wash and groom for the Illinois Beef Expo in Springfield on Saturday.

The Rawlins family raises crops of corn, soybeans, wheat and oats, in addition to raising cattle.

Mr. Hunter said that LCHS students will be involved in helping Main Street Lincoln by planting this year's downtown hanging flower baskets. They will also help the city of Lincoln with community gardens and in planting additional red tulip bulbs for "Plant the Town Red."

This year the Lincoln FFA chapter has had two students qualify as state delegates: Chelsea Coers and Sam Buse.
