The website features a new Abraham Lincoln timeline, podcasts, blogs,
selected bibliographies and research links. Website visitors can
search a list of newspapers available on microfilm by city from the
early 1800s to the present day. From the website, visitors can also
learn how to preserve and conserve their own historical documents
and artifacts. Amateur and professional genealogists will be better
able to identify the type of materials held by the library, using
such tools as ethnic and military service bibliographies and a
obituary finder searchable by last names. Another new feature is a
direct link where patrons can submit an inquiry that automatically
goes to the staff member at the library best equipped to answer it.
The new website also contains background information on the
library's popular "Boys in Blue" Illinois Civil War exhibit and
other programs and exhibits, as well as information about joining
the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation.
The presidential library is the research portion of the Abraham
Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum complex. The library houses
documents, artifacts and information relating to all aspects of
Illinois history, including more than 52,000 items pertaining to our
16th president.
When the state-operated presidential library decided to redesign
its website, they turned to the Illinois Office of Communication and
Information and the Bureau of Communication and Computer Services,
both divisions of another state agency -- the Illinois Department of
Central Management Services. The result is a more intuitive,
easier-to-navigate tool for library users to help them find the
information and materials they are seeking.
An update of the website for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential
Museum, the visitor experience portion of the complex, will come
later this year.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum combines
rigorous scholarship and high-tech showmanship to form the nation's
most popular and emulated presidential center. The library side of
the institution contains more than 12 million items pertaining to
all aspects of Illinois history, including the world's largest
collection of original Lincoln materials. The museum portion uses
lifelike figures and scenes, special effects, riveting
presentations, and ghosts to bring Abraham Lincoln's legacy to life
like never before.
